A group of old industrial buildings has been repurposed for school use over decades. This project is a phased master plan to bring together Industrial Design, Communications, Interiors, Fashion and Foundation classes. The key is gathering formerly isolated single discipline shops into a common shared workshop space, showcasing and encouraging interdisciplinary work. Wood, metal, plastics and CNC shops, paint spray booths, tool library are centrally located at the building entrance.
A new circulation loop fosters community between buildings and encourages interaction. Informal gathering spaces for pin ups are located along circulation paths. Large studios encourage new collaborative groupings. The first phase of construction began the process of linking the buildings. Subsequent phases created design workshops and infrastructure for building mechanical systems. Future phases will include new elevator and stairs, and fit out of upper floors.
