Two historic buildings adjoining the NYU campus accommodate research groups, student gathering space, a conference center, and faculty and administrative offices. The design focuses on creating a healthful indoor environment. A living green wall in the building lobby sets the tone for the environmental experience. On upper floors, research groups gather in flexible open workstation configurations with nearby conference and breakout spaces. Glass-walled offices encourage participation in the light-filled environment.
High ceilings, color-controlled LED lighting, and nature-based color schemes contribute to a calm and productive atmosphere. Every floor includes an informal eating/work space and gender-neutral toilet rooms. Colorful graphics and lighting in the stairs encourage their use. A multi-use open space on the student floor is the setting for job fairs, lectures, and film presentations. A seventy-foot-long window wall brings light and views into the space. A two-floor penthouse conference center invites public access and can also be used as an informal fitness studio.
