CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR}

A Boulevard of Design is at the heart of this studio space for emerging fashion designers.

The CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} provides individual studios for twelve emerging fashion designers selected by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The space is organized around a boulevard extending the length of the floor. The boulevard is a space for events, collaborations, and runway shows. The boulevard’s diagonal lighting and diagonally patterned concrete floor create an impression of movement and energy.

Individual studios have glass storefronts opening on the boulevard. Studios are equipped with track lighting and a movable partition to allow for flexible configurations of showroom and workroom space.

The simple palette of materials is based on the found industrial environment. Exposed brick walls, terra-cotta block column covers, polished concrete floors, exposed ductwork, and sheetrock dividing walls are the common backdrop for the wide variety of approaches of the individual designers.
