Summer 2019: Conferences & Talks

14-16 July – SCUP 2019 Annual Conference
Partner David Whitehill AIA participated in a panel discussion on the integration of technology in higher education with a special focus on digital native students. David was joined by Brian Carter of Integrus Architecture, Ron Cramer of University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Steve Jowett of Michigan State University. The panel was moderated by Pam Taggart of AVIXA.

24-26 July – 8th Annual STEM Forum & Expo, hosted by NSTA
Partner Michael Maza AIA, LEED AP led, with John Dale FAIA from Harley Ellis Devereaux, three workshops on best architectural and design practices for creating STEM/STEAM spaces. During these sessions, Michael fostered collaboration between teachers and students from a variety of grades to raise questions on how to best design resilient and inspiring spaces for the teaching and learning of science.

7 August – At The Center For Architecture: Learning About Schools: Where do Design and Research Fit In?
Partner Michael A. Nieminen FAIA, with Evie Klein Co-founder of User Design Information Group at the Graduate Center (CUNY), Dina Sorensen Associate AIA from DLR Group, Daniel Baumann Lead Designer at Henning Larsen, and Elliot Felix Founder of brightspot, shared their experience and discussed with the audience best practices in design, research and programming to foster better educational environments.

12 August – AIA Knowledge Leadership Assembly
Partner Michael A. Nieminen FAIA, from the AIA Committee on Architecture for Education Leadership Group collaborated with Anne Schopf FAIA from Mahlum Architects and Corey Squire AIA from Lake Flato Architects AIA Knowledge Leadership Assembly on the AIA Awards Alignment 2019 utilizing AIA Committee On The Environment’s Common App.
