Mount Sinai Ambulatory Surgical Facility wins 2020 AIANY Design Award

An international jury of architects, educators, critics, and planners selected the 2020 AIA New York Design Awards winning projects. We are thrilled and honored to receive the Sustainability Merit Award.

At the awards announcement this past Monday, 13 January, the jury commented that “the photovoltaic elements bind the sides of the clinic together, creating a depth of light – the idea of a forest within the project itself – in a beautiful way. The columns are like trees and the very high performing interior is wrapped with the exterior materials that pull all these things together.”

We developed minimally invasive systems to provide this essential infrastructure for electricity, water, and sanitary facilities. Uninterrupted power is provided using a combination of solar panels, Li-Lead Acid Hybrid battery storage, an onsite generator, and intermittent power available through the grid.

AIA New York’s Design Awards program recognizes outstanding architectural design by AIA New York members, New York City-based architects in any location, and work in New York City by architects around the globe. The purpose of the awards program is to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to achieve design excellence.
