KHA’s surgical project in Uganda is included in the United Nations Architecture Guide to the UN 17 Sustainability Development Goals

The United Nations has just published the Architecture Guide to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals: two volumes of case studies featuring 128 projects from around the globe. We are proud to announce that Mount Sinai Ambulatory Surgical Facility was selected to represent Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, for providing access to safe and affordable surgical treatments and delivering a facility with educational and training resources connecting local surgeons to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York through telemedicine.

“Architects can facilitate an open dialogue and work in partnerships to give us good solutions, and they can encourage authorities to make the regulations necessary to move forward.” – Mogens Lykketoft, former President of the United Nations General Assembly.

Natalie Mossin, Chief Editor comments that “to move towards the realization of the Goals, we need many new solutions adapted to local climate, culture and challenges, and we need them not as ideas, but on the ground; implemented and in use. It is through realized buildings, settlements and planning that the effect is achieved both environmentally and humanely.”

This architecture guide has been made possible by the Royal Danish Academy – Architecture, Design, Conservation, the UIA Sustainable Development Goals Commission and the UIA World Congress of Architects 2023 partnership. Written and edited by Natalie Mossin, Sofie Stilling, Thomas Chevalier Bøjstrup, Ingeborg Christiane Hau, Christoffer Steensen Møller and Annette Blegvad.
